Dentists among recommendations and protocols

Unfortunately, bacteremia is not an uncommon event and may even be initiated by everyday routine activities such as tooth brushing and chewing. The prominent role of oral bacteria in the development of endocarditis—entering the bloodstream as part of routine daily activities, but especially during certain dental procedures—has been the subject of debate for decades.

The aim of the lecture is to compare various recommendations proposed by respected associations and highlight their advantages and disadvantages in accordance with evidence-based data.

Learning Objectives

  • Understanding the Pathophysiology and Risks of Infective Endocarditis: Learn about the mechanisms and risk factors associated with infective endocarditis, including the role of oral bacteria in its development. - Recognizing the Oral-Systemic Link in the Development of Endocarditis: Understand how poor oral hygiene and invasive dental procedures can lead to bacteremia, increasing the risk of infective endocarditis. - Identifying High-Risk Patients in Dental Settings: Learn to recognize patients with conditions such as prosthetic heart valves, previous endocarditis, or congenital heart defects who are at increased risk. - Implementing Preventive Strategies During Dental Treatment: Explore current guidelines on antibiotic prophylaxis and other preventive measures to reduce the risk of infective endocarditis during dental procedures. - Applying Evidence-Based Protocols for Managing Patients with Cardiac Conditions: Develop skills to assess and manage patients with cardiac conditions, ensuring safe dental care and minimizing the risk of infective endocarditis.
