Current Concepts in Translucent Zirconia
### Überblick
The latest zirconia materials are a synergistic blend of biological evolution and technological engineering. Today's clinician must recognize the attributes of each zirconia material by way of optical, physical, and biologic material property to ensure clinical success.
This program discusses the difference in 3Y to 5Y zirconia materials, which behave like three distinct types of materials with different clinical indications. Also covered are the newest gradient Yttria content materials – blends of more translucent cubic zirconia with higher-strength but low-translucent tetragonal zirconia. Their uniquely different mechanical, physical, and optical properties as well as specific clinical applications are highlighted, along with very specific finishing techniques to optimize the esthetics of the newest generation of zirconia.
This lecture also introduces the concept of the **"Digital Dental Team" (DDT)**: a workflow that incorporates digital processes in the esthetic anterior workflow combined with an analog "final touch" to create ideal individualistic customization of surface textures and color. The team consists of digital scanning technology, digital printing, the dentist, the highest evolution of machinable monolithic materials, and a highly qualified technician.
